Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) according to a study published in 2005 may affect over 14% of the population, with more than 50% of those patients suffering in silence. Treatments for this syndrome are far-ranging, and often patients find relief through multiple modalities that can be found outside of simply taking a pill.
I have been trained to consider all facets in regard to IBS from a Western Medicine perspective, but in an effort to better serve my IBS patients I began to research theories and treatments outside of my own comfort zone.
To help me understand alternative and complementary approaches to understanding the syndrome of symptoms and some of its treatments, Alana Kessler of Be Well by Alana Kessler sat down with me to discuss her approach to some of the physiology surrounding IBS, and how she utilizes her training in Yoga and Nutrition to help those suffering from this chronic illness.
