Get to know Dr. Akerman
After graduating from CUNY Brooklyn in New York with a degree in Business, Management, and Finance, Dr. Akerman completed a Post-baccalaureate program at Columbia University in order to obtain his pre-medical requirements. A medical Degree from New Jersey Medical School soon followed in 2007.
Dr. Akerman completed an Internship and a Residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center / Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NY in 2010, and a Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 2013.
Dr. Akerman began his post-fellowship career practicing Gastroenterology in Bay Shore, Long Island for 2 years and then relocated in 2015 with his beautiful wife and 3 lovely daughters to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to join Digestive Health Associates of Texas (DHAT) in Plano, TX. He has been voted by his peers as a Best Doctor in Dallas and a Best Doctor in Collin County in D Magazine, as well as a Texas Monthly Magazine Rising Star.
His clinical interests are diverse and include problems with digestion, bowel diseases and syndromes, cancer prevention and diagnostics, and endoscopic therapeutics, among others. He performs Screening Colonoscopy Plano, Endoscopy, Capsule Endoscopy, Endoscopic Ultrasound, ERCP, Hemorrhoid Treatment Dallas, and several other procedures. When he is away from the office, Dr. Akerman enjoys spending time with his family and participating in and contributing to local community events.
